In the WordPress world, there are several editors, but this term most usually refers to the WYSIWYG (what you see is what you get) editor.

The term ‘Editor’ could apply to the main content editor box called the WYSIWYG. But it’s also a user role within WordPress.

Editors have access to write, edit and publish content, usually restricted to within the posts section. It’s a great role if you have a large blog section on your site and want specific users to contribute to them only.

To conclude...

The ‘Editor’ in WordPress can refer to the text editor (WYSIWYG) or a user role.
