The admin section of your website (see also front-end)

The Back-end is another term for the admin area of your site. It’s where you can run your site from – edit and create posts and pages, upload media, add users and a lot more. It also is where you will find developers spending most of their time as all the HTML, CSS, JavaScript and pretty much everything else is accessed through the admin area.

To conclude...

Back-end is just another term for the administration side of your site. This is where you can run your site, add posts and pages and also access the front-end of your site – where you can see the website.
